Project/Program Manager COMPETENCY development workshop,
University of Maryland, Washington, DC,
October 2009
The Global Alliance for Project Performance Standards (GAPPS) has announced that it will be conducting its next workshop in the Washington, DC area in the USA. The US workshop has been scheduled to allow for more participation by US Government Agencies. The workshop will be held during 23 to 25 October, 2009 in the Glenn L. Martin Engineering Building at the University of Maryland, Washington DC, USA.
GAPPS is a group of highly respected global professionals who have developed a set of Project and Program Manager COMPETENCY standards. This group was formed to fill a need for a global organization to facilitate mutual recognition and transferability of project management qualifications. Essentially, GAPPS sees itself as developing “the Linux of project performance standards”. For more information, visit http://www.globalpmstandards.org/about-us/general/about-us/.
GAPPS standards are INDEPENDENT of any specific Body of Knowledge (i.e. PMI’s PMBOK) or Methodology (i.e. APM’s PRINCE2) and are freely available through “open source” or “creative commons” licensing. (Meaning anyone can download them at no cost, use them as is or adapt or improve on them, with few constraints or limitations)

GAPPS has also announced that program manager competency standards should be on the internet within the coming month or so. (Pay special attention to the copyright agreement on page 2)
US Corporate and Government representatives are invited to participate in the October workshop, to contribute to the further development of the project and program management competency standards and/or benchmark existing bodies of knowledge (i.e. GAO-09-3SP) or competencies (i.e. http://www.federalpm.com/articles/pm_comp.php) against those already developed by GAPPS.
